The online rug shop used by the TV interiors shows

One of the hundreds of designs from Modern Rugs

All good interior designers know that a great rug can transform a room or a corridor.

Whether your carpet’s a bit shabby, you want to bring together a colour scheme, or just add a bit of texture and interest, a well-placed rug is often the cheapest and most effective way to do it.

Most home furnishings shops have a rather limited selection, so the chance of you finding exactly the colour and size rug you want is slim. That’s why we love online rug store Modern Rugs.

The site is crammed with hundreds of lovely rugs (it may be thousands, we lost count and went a bit dizzy with the choice on offer) in just about every colour and size you could possibly want.

Fancy a subtle Union Jack inspired design? Got it. Something plain with a thick pile? Take your pick. Stripes? Yes, in every colour combination we can imagine. It’s no wonder this site supplies rugs to most of the UK’s interior design programmes from Grand Designs to 60-Minute Makeover.

And the bit we’re really impressed with is that there are videos of all the rugs on the site, so you can see what the pile is like and what kind of backing the rug has. It’s just like viewing the rug in a shop, only nicer because it doesn’t matter if you’re in your pyjamas at the time.

Oh, and the prices are good too, with the cheaper ranges and smaller rugs often priced at less than £100 and some very luxurious rugs for a few hundred.
